Journalist Keisha Hill Launches Communications Consultancy
After decades of shaping national conversations through journalism, education, strategic communications, and professional training, veteran media practitioner Keisha Hill is embarking on another significant chapter in her distinguished career by expanding K-Ann Hill Communications, a consultancy dedicated to helping organizations communicate with clarity, credibility, and purpose.
Known for her excellence in journalism and her commitment to developing communication professionals, Hill has built a career that spans investigative reporting, public relations, education, media training, corporate communications, and strategic consultancy. Today, she is leveraging that wealth of experience to help government agencies, private sector organizations, non-governmental organizations, and development partners strengthen their communication strategies and tell their stories more effectively.

For Hill, however, the journey has never been about changing careers, it has been about expanding her impact. “I’ve always believed that communication is one of the most powerful tools for creating change,” she said. “Whether through journalism, education, public relations, or training, my passion has always been helping people understand, connect, and make informed decisions.”
She explained that every stage of her professional journey naturally prepared her for the next. “Journalism taught me how to tell compelling stories, education showed me the importance of empowering others, and communications consulting allowed me to combine those skills to help organizations build trust, strengthen their brands, and achieve meaningful results.”
Among the defining moments of her career has been investigative journalism, an area she says shaped both her professional values and her approach to communications. “Early on, I learned that accurate, ethical, and impactful storytelling can influence national conversations and even public policy. Working across government, media, and the private sector has reinforced my belief that communication should always be purposeful, people-centred, and solutions-oriented. Every project should leave people better informed and better equipped to make decisions.”
Those journalistic principles remain central to her consultancy today. “Journalism taught me to ask the right questions, listen carefully, verify information, and communicate complex issues in ways people understand,” she said. “Those principles remain at the heart of my consulting practice. Whether I’m developing a communications strategy, writing speeches, or facilitating training, my goal is always to communicate with clarity, credibility, and authenticity.”
Recognizing that many organizations were delivering impactful programmes but struggling to effectively communicate their achievements, Hill established K-Ann Hill Communications Consultancy to bridge that gap. “I established my consultancy to help organizations tell their stories strategically, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and position themselves for long-term success through professional communications.”
The consultancy offers a comprehensive suite of services including strategic communications planning, public relations, media relations, corporate communications, speechwriting, feature writing, content development, editing, communications training, media coaching, stakeholder engagement, crisis communications, social media content strategy, event communications, project communications, podcast production, and brand storytelling.
She believes one of the greatest communication challenges facing organizations today is navigating an increasingly crowded information landscape. “Audiences are exposed to information every minute of the day, so organizations must communicate clearly, consistently, and authentically,” she said. “Another challenge is responding quickly during crises while ensuring accuracy. Building trust has never been more important.”
Throughout her illustrious career, Hill has led communications for national campaigns, managed year-long editorial initiatives, written speeches that have influenced public discourse, and helped organizations increase their visibility through strategic storytelling. “One of the most rewarding aspects of my work has been seeing communications campaigns evolve into meaningful public engagement that creates measurable impact for communities and organizations.”
In today’s rapidly evolving media environment, she believes the most effective communicators possess far more than technical skills. “A great communicator is first a great listener,” she said. “Beyond that, credibility, empathy, adaptability, and strategic thinking are essential. Good communicators understand their audiences, communicate with purpose, and remain authentic regardless of the platform. Technology may continue to evolve, but trust remains the foundation of effective communication.”
Having witnessed journalism transform dramatically over the years, Hill noted that today’s reporters are expected to master multiple disciplines. “Journalism has become faster, more digital, and more interactive. Reporters are now expected to write, photograph, record video, produce social media content, and engage audiences across multiple platforms. While the tools have changed dramatically, the core principles: accuracy, fairness, balance, and integrity, remain just as important today.”
She encourages aspiring journalists to embrace both traditional reporting skills and emerging digital competencies. “They need strong writing skills, digital literacy, multimedia production skills, data verification techniques, critical thinking, adaptability, and a solid understanding of media ethics. Above all, they must remain curious and committed to lifelong learning.”
Despite the technological advances transforming communications, Hill insists that storytelling remains at the centre of everything she does. “No matter how technology continues to evolve, storytelling remains the heart of communication,” she said. “Whether I’m writing a news article, developing a communications strategy, or creating digital content, I always begin with the human story. Facts inform audiences, but stories create connection. The balance comes from ensuring that every story serves both the audience and the organization’s objectives while maintaining honesty and credibility.”
Beyond consultancy, Hill says mentoring and developing others has become one of the most fulfilling aspects of her career. “I enjoy seeing people discover their potential. Whether I’m training young journalists, mentoring communications professionals, or speaking to students, there’s nothing more rewarding than helping someone gain confidence and develop skills that transform their careers. Watching others succeed is one of the greatest rewards of my profession.”
She also believes many people misunderstand what strategic communication truly involves. “One common misconception is that communication is simply about speaking well or writing effectively. In reality, strategic communication involves planning, research, audience analysis, relationship building, reputation management, and evaluation.”
Likewise, she says effective media training goes beyond rehearsed responses. “It’s not about memorizing answers. It’s about communicating with confidence, clarity, and authenticity under pressure.
Today, Hill defines success differently than she once did. “Success is no longer measured solely by awards or professional achievements,” she reflected. “It is measured by impact, whether I’ve helped an organization communicate more effectively, inspired a young journalist, mentored a future leader, or contributed positively to national development. Success is creating work that leaves a lasting legacy.”
Looking ahead, Hill has ambitious plans for K-Ann Hill Communications Consultancy. “I’m focused on expanding the consultancy into a full-service strategic communications agency offering executive media training, leadership communication coaching, digital storytelling, podcast production, corporate communications advisory, and capacity-building programmes. I also look forward to collaborating with more regional and international organizations.”
Ultimately, Hill hopes her work continues to demonstrate the transformative power of communication. “Communication is far more than delivering information; it’s about building understanding, creating opportunity, preserving stories, and inspiring positive change,” she said. “Throughout my career, my mission has been to use communication as a force for education, empowerment, and transformation, helping individuals and organizations find their voice and make a meaningful impact.”
