United Airlines has officially launched its new nonstop service to Georgetown, Guyana, marking a significant expansion of its international network. The inaugural flight, which took off from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, represents the first direct air link between the two cities. This new route is not only a milestone for United Airlines but also a testament to the growing importance of Guyana as a business and tourism destination.

The service, which began on April 1, 2024, operates four times weekly using the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, equipped to carry 191 passengers across three classes. With this addition, United now offers connections to over 160 destinations from Houston, including more than 85 destinations that no other carrier serves non-stop from the city.

In a statement, United’s CEO expressed enthusiasm about the new service: “We are thrilled to connect Houston and Georgetown, bringing these vibrant cities closer. This service is a game-changer for both business and leisure travelers, offering them unparalleled convenience and comfort.”

The launch is part of United’s broader strategy to enhance its presence in Latin America and the Caribbean. The airline has invested over $2.5 billion in upgrading Terminal B at Houston’s airport, a move that underscores its commitment to improving passenger experience and operational efficiency.

The Guyanese government has welcomed the new service, anticipating a boost in tourism and commerce. The Minister of Public Infrastructure remarked, “United Airlines’ new route to Georgetown is a bridge between our nations, promising economic growth and cultural exchange.”

Industry analysts view the new service as a smart move for United, tapping into an underserved market with significant potential. The airline’s decision to use the fuel-efficient Boeing 737 MAX 8 reflects its ongoing efforts to modernize its fleet and reduce its environmental footprint.

As the inaugural flight touched down in Georgetown, passengers were greeted with traditional Guyanese hospitality, signaling the warm relationship that the new service is expected to foster between the two countries. With this ambitious expansion, United Airlines continues to solidify its position as a leading global carrier, ready to explore new horizons and connect the world one flight at a time.
