Pacific Coast Jet

The moment I stepped off the plane at Providenciales International Airport, the warm, salty breeze of Turks & Caicos greeted me like an old friend. It was a stark contrast to the biting cold I had left behind in New York City just hours earlier. Winter in the city had been relentless, with its slushy sidewalks and gray skies, and I had been craving an escape—a true five-star experience that would whisk me away to a world of exclusivity and elegance. Turks & Caicos, with its pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and reputation for luxury, seemed like the perfect destination. Over the next five days, I would discover that it was even more than I had imagined.

My journey began early in the morning at JFK Airport, where I boarded a direct flight to Providenciales. The flight was just over three hours, making it an ideal getaway for East Coast travelers. As the plane descended, I caught my first glimpse of the islands—a mosaic of blues and greens that looked almost too perfect to be real. The airport itself was small but efficient, and I was quickly whisked through customs by a representative from the resort I had chosen for my stay: The Shore Club Turks & Caicos, a luxurious beachfront property on Long Bay Beach.

The resort’s driver greeted me with a warm smile and a chilled bottle of water, a small but thoughtful touch that set the tone for the rest of my trip. As we drove along the island’s quiet roads, I couldn’t help but notice how untouched and serene everything felt. The Shore Club’s arrival experience was nothing short of spectacular. A concierge welcomed me with a refreshing towel and a glass of champagne, and I was escorted to my oceanfront suite. The room was a masterpiece of modern design, with floor-to-ceiling windows that offered uninterrupted views of the Caribbean Sea. The private terrace, complete with a plunge pool, became my favorite spot to unwind.

That evening, I dined at the resort’s signature restaurant, Sui-Ren, which specializes in Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine. The meal was a culinary journey, with dishes like miso-marinated black cod and wagyu beef tataki that melted in my mouth. As I sipped on a glass of sake under the stars, I felt the stresses of New York City melt away.

The next morning, I woke up early to the sound of waves gently lapping against the shore. After a leisurely breakfast at the resort’s beachfront café, I decided to explore Grace Bay, often hailed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The Shore Club provided a complimentary shuttle service, and within minutes, I found myself standing on the powdery white sand, staring out at the crystal-clear waters.

I had booked a private catamaran tour through Island Vibes Tours, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip. The crew was attentive and knowledgeable, and the boat itself was luxurious, with plush seating and a fully stocked bar. We sailed to secluded spots where I snorkeled among vibrant coral reefs and swam with friendly stingrays. The crew prepared a gourmet lunch on board, featuring fresh seafood and local specialties like conch salad.

Back on land, I spent the afternoon wandering through the boutiques and art galleries in Grace Bay. I stumbled upon a charming little shop called Island Organics, where I picked up some handmade soaps and candles infused with local fragrances like coconut and sea salt. As the sun began to set, I made my way to Coco Bistro, a highly recommended restaurant nestled in a palm grove. The ambiance was magical, and the food—particularly the lobster tail and key lime pie—was exceptional.

Day three was all about indulgence. I started my morning with a yoga session on the beach, followed by a decadent spa treatment at The Shore Club’s tranquil spa. The therapist used products made from local ingredients, like aloe vera and coconut oil, leaving my skin feeling rejuvenated and glowing.

In the afternoon, I decided to try my hand at paddleboarding. The resort offered complimentary water sports equipment, and the calm waters of Long Bay Beach were perfect for beginners. As I glided across the surface, I felt a sense of peace and connection with nature that I hadn’t experienced in a long time.

That evening, I attended a private beachside dinner arranged by the resort. A personal chef prepared a multi-course meal featuring locally sourced ingredients, while a violinist played softly in the background. It was a truly unforgettable experience, and I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to enjoy such exclusivity.

On my fourth day, I ventured beyond the resort to explore the cultural and natural wonders of Turks & Caicos. I booked a guided tour with Caicos Dream Tours, which included a visit to Little Water Cay, also known as Iguana Island. The island is home to the endangered rock iguana, and it was fascinating to see these creatures up close in their natural habitat.

Next, we stopped at Half Moon Bay, a secluded beach that felt like my own private paradise. The tour guide shared stories about the island’s history and ecology, adding depth to the experience. We also visited a local conch farm, where I learned about the importance of conch to the island’s economy and cuisine.

For dinner, I opted for a more casual dining experience at Da Conch Shack, a beloved local spot. The conch fritters and cracked conch were delicious, and the lively atmosphere provided a nice contrast to the refined elegance of my previous meals.

My final day in Turks & Caicos was bittersweet. I spent the morning soaking up the sun on the beach, savoring every last moment of the island’s beauty. Before heading to the airport, I treated myself to one last spa treatment—a massage that left me feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated.

As I boarded my flight back to New York City, I reflected on the incredible experiences I had enjoyed over the past five days. Turks & Caicos had exceeded my expectations in every way, offering a perfect blend of exclusivity, elegance, and adventure. It was a reminder of why we travel—to escape the ordinary and immerse ourselves in the extraordinary.
