The 72nd Annual St. Thomas Carnival Village Celebrates with Shaggy, Sizzla, Patrice Roberts, and Machel Montano

The U.S. Virgin Islands, a vibrant cultural hub in the northeastern Caribbean, is set to transform into a musical paradise with the announcement of the performance line-up for the 72nd Annual St. Thomas Carnival Village. This year’s line-up is a testament to the rich tapestry of Caribbean music, featuring a blend of genres and artists that promise to electrify the atmosphere with rhythm and soul. Headlining the six-night extravaganza are none other than Caribbean superstars Shaggy, Sizzla Kalonji, Patrice Roberts, and Machel Montano, each bringing their unique flavor to the stage.

The Carnival Village, a cornerstone of the annual celebrations, will kick off on April 29 with Machel Montano setting the tone for what is anticipated to be an unforgettable series of performances. The Department of Tourism and Division of Festivals have curated a diverse array of talent that not only showcases the stars but also shines a spotlight on local talent such as Adam O, Rudy Live, Temisha, Karnage, Blind Earz, VIO International, and Spectrum Band, who will represent the musical essence of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

In addition to the local acts, the festival will feature cross-cultural sounds with Haitian kompa band VAYB and Dominican salsa orchestra Chiquito Team Band, providing a rich immersion into the diverse musical interests of the island’s residents. The line-up also includes first-time performers in the territory like TeeJay, Jada Kingdom, and Kollision Band, alongside returning favorites Edwin Yearwood and Krosfyah, and Grandmasters, ensuring that the Carnival Village will be a melting pot of musical styles.

This year’s festival is not just about the music; it’s a celebration of culture and community. The Division of Festivals is introducing the first Kids Night Out Village Night, complete with activities tailored for the younger audience, including the Toddlers Derby, Best Dressed Doll, and performances by TMK and OTB. This initiative highlights the inclusive nature of the carnival, ensuring that there’s something for everyone.

The anticipation for the St. Thomas Carnival is palpable, with Commissioner Joseph Boschulte of the USVI Department of Tourism expressing the heightened excitement surrounding this year’s event. Director Ian Turnbull of the USVI Division of Festivals added that the goal is to honor the vast Virgin Islands and Caribbean culture that is the foundation of these annual celebrations, for both natives and visitors.

The U.S. Virgin Islands, known for its breathtaking beaches, international marine industry, and European architecture, is the perfect backdrop for such a vibrant event. With no passport requirements for U.S. citizens traveling from the mainland or Puerto Rico, the islands are an accessible slice of paradise for those looking to immerse themselves in the festivities.

For those eager to experience the fusion of music and culture, the St. Thomas Carnival Village is the place to be. It’s a celebration that transcends entertainment, embodying the spirit and heart of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
